"Hiller of the Month"

Catherine Lenihan is relatively new to running and sport in general but has achieved a lot in that short time. With a number of marathons under her belt, she has also taken on a number of challenging cycle events . She's one of our club members who works away strongly and silently but not unnoticed in the background. A regular at the shorter races where she is often seen picking up a category prize .More recently she helped her BHAA team take home a prize...A valued member of our club and we wish Catherine much continued success in the orange geansai.

Steve Dunlea is one of those runners who puts in the hard work all year round, clocking up lots of his miles on his own due to work commitments. He has shaved over 30 minutes off his marathon time in the space of 12 months which is testament to his dedication.

He has completed 3 marathons this year, with Dublin recently securing him the coveted sub 3.30 time. He has also managed to get a new PB for his half marathon in the last 5 of his 6 races. 2017 will surely see Steve get even better with the Paris marathon just one race in his diary for next year.

Aislinn Hurley manages to do it with a smile, and brings the same attitude to her running. Eager to learn and improve, thhas seen her achieve a goal of breaking the 4 hour mark this month in the Dublin Marathon, running a perfectly paced race. A valued member of the club committee who is always at hand to help with club events.is

Jim O'Keeffe has had a great October, his hard work paid off earlier this month with a great 3rd place in the Cork 2 Cobh 15 mile race, in a highly competitive M50 category. He finished off the month with another great marathon result, running a new PB in 3:25. Always a wearer of some form of headgear, Jims always good for a wave. Another great clubman and valued member of the committee.

Jackie O'Keeffe , our clubs glamourous lady.Having celebrated a significant birthday recently, the celebrations continued  by running a huge PB in the recent Cork 2 Cobh race. A direct result of Jackies commitment to training and long distance races. A hugely popular character within the club, a great result is expected in the upcoming Dublin Marathon.

Kieran McKeown, the clubs resident coach. Kieran has a huge running predigree which was stalled a number of years back due to injury. Having returned  to running in the last few years he has taken his running onto a new level recently,  running serious times and placing in most races. Our Club Coach for training nights in the Mardyke, Kieran is always on hand to impart advice and tips.

August 2016

Mary Collins is an inspiration to anyone who hasn't taken up running. Having been a member of last years couch 2 5k group, Mary reapplied herself this year to running and joined this years Couch2Relay group , she  has gone from strength to strength since , completing all the Ballycotton 5 milers, and has taken her training and running to the next level completing the Charleville Half Marathon. Great dedication and hard work means Mary is this months Hiller of the Month.
Stephen "Steph" Hurley, a new slim line Steph has put in months of consistent , structured training over the past months, and PB's have followed . 5K and 5 mile PB's in the Ballycotton Series were followed by another PB in Charleville. Better known to many for his arse slapping escapades,  hopefully with his decorated soccer career behind him, he will go from strength to strength .Expect more PB's to follow

July 2016

Caroline Buckley has really excelled this year and its been fantastic to see the improvements she has made despite a couple of niggling injuries. A regular at races for the past few years having picked up a number of victories lately. Can sometimes come across as cranky after races, ;-) , although it may be just exhaustion. Somehow manages to run with her partner Ricky on occasion (for a while anyways)

Damien "Damo" O'Brien, has been plagued with different injuries over the last 12 months, now that they are behind him, his enthusiasm for running is infectious to all around him, a really great guy to have around the club. Dabbles In a bit of healthy baking on occasion, Damo also loves the mountains and is a regular trail runner. You can expect to see his times getting faster as the year progresses.

June 2016

Lynn O'Leary, after hanging up her GAA boots, Lynn has excelled since taking to the roads. Work commitments curtail her weekend running, but none the less this year has seen her achieve some significant milestones, breaking 80 minutes in Ballycotton and running a great half-marathon in Cork. Word is that she will make her Full Marathon debut in Dublin this year. We've no doubt she'll smash it.
Club Captain Bryan Crowley epitomises what our club aspires to be, highly competitive, eager to learn, and out to enjoy the social side of road running. He's come a long way over the last 2 years, and his rut of recent podium places underline the effort he puts into his running.
Always available to newer runners to pass on some words of wisdom, his recent act of sportsmanship clearly shows the kind of guy he is..

May 2016

Gwen Conroy, Club Captain, the pocket rocket, voucher queen, 2015 Female athlete of the year, to name a few of her titles. A quiet unassuming individual ,Gwen will always keep you entertained on any run.  A fantastic lady to push others on ,and a great help to our newer runners. Really works hard to get the successes she gets. A decent aul sort as she'd say herself!

Conor Mullane , a reluctant Hiller of the Month, but more than justified with his performance at the Limerick marathon, running a 6 minute PB after what can only be described as disruptive training.

Has been known to wear very odd color shorts, but we wont hold that against him.

The man behind Simply Suits is one to watch for the coming year as he continues to improve, and is a huge asset to have in the club both on and off the road.

April 2016

Nessa Goggin like Lisa from last month is a great club, member, always encouraging and fiercely determined to achieve, this was really epitomised recently in the great Crosshaven Run, where Nessa had a nasty fall during the race but rallied and finished with a great time. This lady can make a bin liner into a fashion accessory for those wet race starts. A regular at the track Nessa fully deserves this months Hiller of the Month
Gary Healy or Mountain Man has taken part in umpteen IMRA events over the past couple of years. These events are not for the faint hearted but Gary eats them for breakfast. Gary also sees the benefit from the Track, so not all long miles, but a mixture of speed too is important even for Mountain Runners.

March 2016

Lisa Crowley is simply a lady every club would love to have. Our best and most vocal supporter when with child, to an athlete who's constantly trying to improve when without ! A smile is never to far way , nor a word of encouragement for others. A great time in Ballycotton is sure to be followed with a few more this year.

Martin Landers  has progressed from the stand out Couch 2 5k athlete of 2015 to a regular on the racing circuit, although he has cursed 10 milers for all of Cork ! Martin has been a fantastic addition to the club both on and off the road and like Lisa is constantly looking for improvement. PB's will continue to come thick and fast for Martin...

February 2016

Dolores Duffy has made a massive impact on the club since joining at the start of this year. A regular at the Wednesday night track session has helped to a host of Podium places in January and February, with a fantastic victory ith a great time the postponed Clonakility Marathon.
Ricky Costello, has had his fair share of niggling injuries, however he keeps coming back and keeps improving. Also a regular at the track on a Wednesday night, and a recent PB at the Gas Networks Ireland BHAA 5k is testament to the effort he puts in to improve.

January 2016

Lorraine Slowey has shown great dedication to her training, often getting the miles in on her own. No easy feat when juggling 3 small kids.

It was great to see the hard work paying off with her  strong performance in Dungarvan, even though it was a last minute decision. Fellow runners will acknowledge her positive attitude.

Peter Quirke was another of the couch to 5k graduates from last year. He has shown great progress since, through his impressive pace and also great dedication. We hope that he will recover from his recent shoulder injury to renew his
friendly rivalry with Martin & Andrew. Definetly one to watch for 2016.
